Finding Your Voice: Friendships, Boundaries & Confidence

A 3-week workshop helping kids speak up, stand up, and show up with confidence. 🫶🏼

Kids today are navigating friendships, conflict, peer pressure, group chats, and social situations earlier than ever before. While these experiences can help children grow, they can also leave them feeling unsure of how to speak up, set boundaries, or handle challenges confidently.

Finding Your Voice is a small-group summer workshop designed to help children build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop practical tools for navigating everyday social situations. Participants will engage in interactive activities, role-play, discussion, and real-world scenarios that help them practice skills they can immediately use at home, at school, and with friends.

Self-advocacy is the ability to express your thoughts, needs, feelings, and boundaries respectfully. It helps children communicate effectively, navigate challenges, and build confidence in everyday situations.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is designed for children and tweens who would benefit from additional practice with communication, confidence, friendship skills, problem-solving, and boundary setting. It is appropriate for both outgoing and quieter children.

What will participants learn?

Participants will practice:

  • Speaking up respectfully

  • Setting healthy boundaries

  • Navigating friendship challenges

  • Expressing needs and feelings

  • Handling conflict constructively

  • Knowing when to solve a problem independently and when to ask for help

Is this a therapy group?

No. This is an educational workshop focused on social-emotional learning, communication, confidence, and self-advocacy skills. It is not therapy, counseling, or a mental health treatment program.

My child is shy. Is this a good fit?

Yes. Many children who benefit from this workshop are thoughtful, quiet, or hesitant to speak up in certain situations. Activities are designed to encourage participation in a supportive and low-pressure environment.

My child is outgoing. Will they still benefit?

Absolutely. Self-advocacy is not just about speaking more. It is also about listening, communicating respectfully, navigating conflict, and understanding healthy boundaries.

Why are the age groups 7–9 and 11–13?

Children develop social and emotional skills at different rates. We created two groups to provide age-appropriate activities and discussions while keeping the groups small and engaging.

My child is 10 years old. Which group should they join?

Some 10-year-olds connect best with younger elementary-aged children, while others relate more closely to older tweens. We'll help families determine the best fit based on social-emotional maturity, personality, and comfort level.

What is the workshop format?

This is a small-group workshop that includes interactive activities, discussions, role-playing, real-life scenarios, and guided practice. Participants will have opportunities to learn, reflect, and apply new skills in a supportive environment.

Will parents receive resources?

Yes. Families will receive resources and strategies to help continue conversations and reinforce skills at home.

How many children will be in each group?

Groups are intentionally kept small to encourage participation, discussion, and meaningful connections.

My child struggles with friendship drama. Is this workshop a good fit?

If your child has difficulty speaking up, setting boundaries, handling disagreements, navigating peer relationships, or knowing what to say in challenging social situations, this workshop may provide valuable opportunities to learn and practice these skills in a supportive environment.
